Oxford calculates its carbon footprint

Oct. 09, 2008

As one of the largest real estate investment firms in Canada, Oxford has recognized that it has an important role to play in the fight against climate change, launching Oxford Sustainable Intelligence to integrate sustainability into their global operations.

Recognizing the opportunities – improved environmental and financial performance, reduced exposure to risk, enhanced competitiveness and greater stakeholder alignment and engagement – Oxford has committed to becoming an industry leader in adopting the principles of sustainability – and in putting them into measurable action.

In 2008, Oxford calculated its corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory in accordance with recognized standards and best practices. With this data, they have set an ambitious goal of reducing GHG emissions in all of the properties they directly own and manage, on a per square foot basis, by 20% by the year 2012.

To achieve this, Oxford will work their building managers and tenants by improving energy efficiency and, where feasible, using green power in their buildings.
